On Point was founded in 1991 as an abstinence-centered strategy in response to the alarming number of teenage pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases in the Hamilton County and Northwest Georgia areas.
Recognizing that risk behaviors cluster, today our mission has expanded. On Point partners with schools and communities to cultivate the strengths in youth and guide them on their path to thrive. Utilizing our holistic and multifaceted programs we now reach students with Think On Point (risk avoidance, healthy choices), which fulfills the schools' sexual education requirement; and the Life On Point Curricula which focuses on students' Self-Discovery, Life Vision/Life Skills, Healthy Life Choices, Positive Support, a Leadership for Service.
Since On Point's inception, the teenage pregnancy rate has decreased by 54%(per 1000 teenage girls) in Hamilton County. We have also added programming to include: Graduate On Point (targeting juniors with the skills they need to graduate), and the On Point Teen Advisory Board (students from various high schools in the area who are the voices to and for On Point). These programs increase leadership skills, as well as encourage academic success for teens in our community.
